The locally produced horror-comedy New Fears Eve, filmed entirely in Owensboro by the team at Blood Moon Pictures, is continuing to gain momentum well beyond its hometown roots following a successful festival run and a strong debut on streaming platforms.

Produced by Owensboro natives P.J. Starks and Eric Huskisson, the film was shot on location across the city and features a cast packed with regional talent. Filming locations included Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro Community & Technical College, The Pub on Second, and the Owensboro Bridge — a deliberate choice by the filmmakers to highlight the city and demonstrate that independent filmmaking can thrive outside of Hollywood.

Since its debut, New Fears Eve has screened at festivals across the U.S. and internationally, earning multiple awards for horror-comedy and ensemble performance. The film also features notable genre names, including Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick, who served as a producer and actor, and Scary Movie actor Dave Sheridan, who won Best Supporting Performance for his role.

As the film moves into the new year, its reach continues to grow. New Fears Eve has been acquired by Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting, the company behind Terrifier 2, Terrifier 3, The Toxic Avenger remake, and the recent Silent Night, Deadly Night remake — and has since been released across major streaming platforms.

The movie has trended as high as No. 2 on Screambox, a subscription-based horror streaming service, and is also available on Amazon Prime, Roku, Hoopla, Google Play, Plex, and Fandango at Home. It currently holds an 8.0 out of 10 rating on IMDb, based on more than 600 user reviews that continue to grow.

Starks said critical and audience reception has been strong, with reviewers describing the film as “refreshing,” “a slasher film for fans of slasher films,” “wonderfully ridiculous,” and “undeniably impressive.”
