The Support Alliance of the Visually Impaired (SAVI) hosted its fifth annual Blindfold Bowling Tournament last weekend at Southern Lanes, giving sighted participants the chance to bowl blindfolded with rails to simulate the experience of visually impaired athletes.

Eight teams bowled on Saturday, with the top three advancing to Sunday’s finals. The Owensboro Lions Club claimed first place, Owensboro Professional Firefighters Local 870 finished second, and UniFirst Corporation took third.

Major sponsors included the Owensboro Lions Club, Owensboro Professional Firefighters Local 870, UniFirst, Fraternal Order of Police Owensboro Lodge 16, Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, Owensboro Health, and Owensboro Racing and Gaming. Members of Christ Community Church also fielded two teams, and many local businesses contributed cash donations and door prizes.

Proceeds support SAVI’s mission to assist visually impaired individuals in Daviess and surrounding counties. The nonprofit promotes public awareness, advocates for equal employment opportunities, and provides educational and rehabilitation resources.

SAVI meets from 1–3 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church (1215 Sherm Road) and via Zoom. Meetings include guest speakers and opportunities to share information. For more information, call 270-925-0183 or 270-684-4418.
