The Owensboro Symphony’s sixth annual Symphony Stroll will take place tonight as part of the City of Owensboro’s new Illuminate Art & Light Experience. The Symphony’s event runs from 6:30-9 p.m. along downtown and the riverfront.

Presented by Jagoe Homes, the Symphony Stroll invites the public to enjoy live performances from Symphony ensembles while exploring downtown. Each group will be paired with creative light displays that are part of Illuminate, designed to transform the city into a walkable gallery of sound and color.

“(The Symphony Stroll) has become a highlight of our season because it brings friends and families together in such a beautiful and accessible way,” said Owensboro Symphony CEO Gwyn Payne. “We are so happy to join Illuminate this year and create an even more memorable experience for our community.”

Ensembles will be stationed at several sites across downtown, each paired with light displays or unique settings:

  • Piano in McConnell Plaza with interactive lights
  • Percussion group near The Pub on Second
  • String ensemble performing in the RiverPark Center lobby with candlelight effects
  • Brass ensemble at the Overlook Stage
  • Jazz ensemble in the grassy area between Feta and Goodwood
  • Violin duo on the courthouse lawn alongside the Loophole light show
  • Wind ensemble at the corner of the Convention Center and Locust Street
  • Harp performance in RiverPark Center’s Atmos Courtyard as part of the Tranquility Garden installation

Tim Ross, the city’s director of public events, said combining the Symphony Stroll with the opening night of Illuminate was a natural fit.

“We are thrilled to unveil Illuminate for everyone to experience October 3-5,” Ross said. “On opening night, we are honored to partner with the Owensboro Symphony for their annual Symphony Stroll to add the magic of their incredibly talented musicians to the atmosphere throughout the event.”

Both the Symphony Stroll and Illuminate are free to attend. Parking is available at two downtown garages, 100 Daviess Street and 215 Locust Street, for $10 (cash only). Additional paid surface lots and limited free street parking are located nearby.

Illuminate continues through Sunday with dozens of installations and experiences throughout downtown.
