Emmy Award–winning comedian Vicki Lawrence — one of television’s most beloved personalities — is bringing her two-woman show, “Vicki Lawrence & Mama,” to Owensboro in January.

The performance is set for 6:30 p.m. on January 20 at the RiverPark Center.

Lawrence rose to fame as part of The Carol Burnett Show’s legendary cast, where she created her iconic character Thelma Harper, better known as “Mama.” Afterward, she starred in Mama’s Family, which ran for six seasons and remains a fan favorite in syndication around the world.

“My show is not a retrospective,” Lawrence said. “The show is a mixture of stand-up comedy, music, and my observations about real life. … I think people will get a kick out of the things Mama has an opinion about. We’re creating new material with a more modern and cutting edge. Where Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected. There’s really nothing she can’t do.”

The multi-talented entertainer is also a recording artist, earning a gold record for her 1973 hit “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.”

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on October 10 at Ticketmaster.com and the RiverPark Center Box Office. For more information, call 270-687-2770 or visit the box office, open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show is rated PG-13 for some mature content.
