After retiring from a 25-year career as a telecommunicator for the Owensboro police and fire departments, Christy Miller decided to take a new path — one that involved comfort food and community connections.
Miller and her husband, Jim, launched Frogtown Foods in 2023, debuting their food truck at BBQ & Barrels just weeks after her retirement. The couple has since become a familiar presence at local events, including Friday After 5, the Air Show, and more.
“We do cheesesteaks, pulled pork, burgers, baked potatoes, and macaroni and cheese — everybody loves our macaroni and cheese,” Miller said. “We just try to stick with good, hearty comfort food.”
The Millers’ menu has expanded beyond savory staples to include flavored lemonades, shaved ice, and “dirty sodas.” They’ve also gained attention for their participation in Burger Week earlier this year.
“No one knew us before Burger Week, and the publicity we got from that was just overwhelming,” Miller said. “We share our story and our love for food, and the community has been so supportive.”
Frogtown Foods often sets up at Street Eats on West Parrish Avenue and caters private lunches for local businesses. Their family lends a hand at larger events — including their daughter, who owns the hot dog stand Black Flame Cartel, and their 16-year-old, who helps out when she can.
Adding a touch of fun, the Millers have even introduced a mascot named Freddy D., who appears at events and catering gigs.
Looking ahead, the couple is preparing a new food truck they plan to debut during the next Burger Week.
“We’re already working on our menu for Friday After 5 and the Air Show,” Miller said.
Frogtown Foods posts updates about upcoming locations and menus on their Facebook page, where Miller encourages followers to keep an eye out for their next appearance, and maybe even a visit from Freddy, their new mascot.
