The Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club is launching a new bourbon series that pays tribute to local legends, with the first release honoring its namesake — basketball Hall of Famer Cliff Hagan.
The pilot bottle, “Top Cat Bourbon,” will be the first in the organization’s 10-year “Owensboro Greats Collection.” Each year, the Club will release a new limited-edition bourbon named after a figure from the realms of sports, business, or civic life who helped put Owensboro on the map.
“We’re kicking off the series with the legendary ‘Top Cat Bourbon,’ named in honor of our hometown basketball icon and our organization’s namesake, Mr. Cliff Hagan,” said Kalie Winkler, the Club’s director of resource development and marketing. “This exquisite bourbon is as legendary as the man himself.”
The bottle includes biographical highlights of Hagan’s basketball career and achievements. The bourbon itself was distilled by Casey Jones Distillery in Hopkinsville and aged four years. It is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey bottled at 100 proof.
Only 100 bottles will be available for purchase starting at 10 a.m. on December 1, exclusively at Barrel Heads Liquor Market & Tasting Bar in Owensboro. Each bottle costs $120, with a limit of five per customer.
“We really want to thank all of our friends at Casey Jones Distillery for helping us bring this dream to life,” Winkler said. “They were an incredible business to work with, and we look forward to the future of our Owensboro Greats Collection with them.”
Winkler also credited Barrel Heads owner Dallas Caldwell for his continued support.
“We can’t begin to explain how much their generosity means to us to help us bring our Top Cat Bourbon home to sell here in Owensboro,” she said.
All proceeds from the bourbon will benefit the Mike Horn Unit of the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club.
