Comedian and Owensboro native Laurie Huff is bringing the laughs back to her hometown with Huff’s HaHa Club – Home for the Holidays, a live comedy and art showcase set for December 20.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. at Kentucky Sound Stage, 5333 Frederica Street.
The show will feature a mix of national talent and local flair, including Nashville-based headliners Moody Molavi and Judson Veach, Western Kentucky comic Kyle Allen, and a pre-show fine art exhibit by Huff’s mother, Frederica Diane Huff.
“This has been a dream of mine for years,” Laurie Huff said. “I want to bring top-tier comedy to Owensboro, but also give local performers a platform. This is about building something lasting.”
Huff, who was homeschooled in Owensboro and grew up performing with Theatre Workshop of Owensboro and Owensboro Dance Theatre, studied at Western Kentucky University. After earning her BFA in performing arts, she launched a full-time career in performance that included dance companies, concert stages, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
She later trained at The Second City in Chicago and The Groundlings in Los Angeles, sharpening her skills as a comedic actor and improviser. During the pandemic, Huff shifted toward stand-up comedy for its self-sufficiency — a move that she said has led to appearances at The Hollywood Improv, Ice House Pasadena, Flappers Burbank, and Laugh Riot Grrrl Festival. She has shared stages with Darrell Hammond, Tom Arnold, and Whitney Cummings.
The upcoming Owensboro show is themed around the holiday season, with material that explores both the joy and stress of family gatherings and year-end celebrations.
“People are turning to laughter to cope and connect,” Huff said. “I think it’s the perfect time to start something like this in my hometown.”
She added that headliner Moody Molavi blends razor-sharp satire with heartfelt stories rooted in his Iranian heritage and Southern upbringing.
She said Judson Veach, a rising Midwestern comic and regular at Zanies Nashville and the Nateland Live Showcase, is known for his relatable humor and spot-on impressions of a devoted husband and dad. He’s performed alongside Dusty Slay, Ryan Hamilton, and more.
Local talent will also be on full display. Kyle Allen, a western Kentucky comic, brings a quick wit and storytelling charm that turns awkward moments into memorable punchlines.
Before the show begins, guests are invited to explore a fine art display by Frederica Diane Huff, Laurie’s mother and a longtime member of the Owensboro Art Guild. A former instructor at Kentucky Wesleyan College, her work is currently featured in a solo exhibition at the Downing Museum in Bowling Green and will be available for purchase at the comedy event and the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art gift shop.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online here or at the door. Use promo code “Local5” for $5 off.
Looking ahead, Huff’s HaHa Club will host open mic nights on January 7 and 14, 2026, both at 6:30 p.m. at Kentucky Sound Stage. Local comics of all experience levels will have the chance to audition for a spot in the next show after that, scheduled for January 17.
“My goal is to create opportunities right here in Owensboro so people don’t feel like they have to leave to build a career,” Huff said. “There’s so much potential in this community, and I’m excited to help it grow.”
