When the Yamada kids discovered their Elf on the Shelf was missing, the family could only hope she would find her way back. What they didn’t know was that a little Christmas magic — and a helpful officer — was already at work.
Around 10 p.m. Monday night, Owensboro Police Department Officer Kendall made a holiday rescue. The Yamadas’ adventurous elf had been found “breaking and entering” at the family’s old address, clearly trying to get back to her people after their recent move.
Understanding how carefully elves must be handled, he secured her in the back of his patrol car for the ride home.
The kids — Arroh, 9, Aspyn, 5, and Atlas, 3 — used tongs to handle the elf to preserve her magic, and they all went to bed thankful for the reunion.
