Carter’s will open a new retail location in Owensboro this Wednesday, adding a dedicated children’s clothing store to the growing Gateway Commons shopping area.
The store will feature approximately 4,000 square feet of baby and children’s apparel, gifts, and accessories. The store will carry products from several Carter’s house brands, including Carter’s, OshKosh B’gosh, Little Planet, and Skip Hop.

Savannah Helm, the store’s manager, said the goal is to create a welcoming and comfortable shopping experience for families from the moment they walk through the door.
“Our biggest goal is to make sure people come in and leave confident and comfortable with their shopping experience,” Helm said. “We want to acknowledge them as soon as they walk in the door. We want to make that connection. We want to thank them for shopping with us. We want them to feel like this is a friendly and welcome environment to come back to.”
Helm, a mother of five, said the new location fills a gap in the local retail landscape by offering a store focused exclusively on children’s clothing.
“If you think about it, really, we don’t have a designated kids’ clothing store. Everything else is kind of mixed in,” Helm said. “Our biggest thing is bringing a comfortable and confident, kid-friendly environment into Owensboro.”
The store will carry clothing from preemie sizes through size 14 in “big kids.”
“There’s plenty to choose from, all different ages, different styles. We can accommodate pretty much anybody who walks in our door,” Helm said.
She encouraged the community to support the new business as it establishes itself in Owensboro.
“This is a new store and a new team that wants to come into Owensboro and be successful,” Helm said. “We want to stay here. We want to be here while your kids are growing.”
Carter’s will also offer multiple shopping options, including in-store pickup for online orders and curbside pickup through its mobile app.
In addition to the store opening, Carter’s will host a Grand Opening Giveaway event on Feb. 28. The first 50 customers in line will receive a gift card worth up to $100. Official giveaway rules are available on the company’s website.
According to a release, Carter’s, Inc. is the largest branded marketer in North America of apparel exclusively for babies and young children, with more than 1,000 company-operated stores across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, along with a significant online presence.
