(Owensboro, KY – Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, Inc.) – Southern Star and Kentucky 811 are partnering together to celebrate National 811 Day, recognized annually on August 11.
Southern Star and Kentucky 811 will host a booth at the Owensboro Regional Farmer’s Market on Saturday, August 9, to raise awareness about the importance of calling 811 before digging to prevent damage to underground utility lines. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. visitors can learn more about safe digging practices and receive a special Southern Star Farmers’ Market tote bag while supplies last.
“Southern Star is committed to educating the public on pipeline safety and the importance of calling 811 before any digging project,” said Shawn Patterson, President and CEO. “Calling 811 is a simple, but crucial, way everyone can do their part in protecting our communities.”
“No matter the project, big or small, it is free to contact 811 before your next dig, and more importantly, it is the LAW,” said Patrick Donoghue, Kentucky 811 Western Region Public Awareness and Damage Prevention Manager. “We all want to live in a safe community, and contacting 811, respecting marked underground facilities, and practicing safe digging are all ways you can contribute to making the area you live in safer. Remember, safety is in your hands. Every dig. Every time.”
Kentucky 811 is a non-profit corporation designed to reduce damage to buried utilities and promote safe digging across the commonwealth. Kentucky’s “Call Before You Dig” Law requires that anyone planning to excavate or dig contact 8-1-1 at least two full working days before breaking ground. The purpose is to identify and mark the locations of underground utility lines to prevent damage and ensure proper safety during projects.
