A jury trial has been postponed for Travon Anthony, who was charged in September 2018 for the murder of Todd Raley.
The jury trial, originally scheduled for Nov. 12, 2019, was put on hold due to the unavailability of a key witness and the need for more time to complete a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation.
An order for psychiatric examination, treatment and evaluation revealed that Anthony shall be examined and treated by the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC) for a period up to 60 days. KCPC will appoint at least one psychologist or psychiatrist to conduct an examination of the defendant, determining whether Anthony is mentally ill, has an intellectual disability, needs treatment, suffers from any organic brain damage likely to result in abnormal behavior and/or is incompetent to stand trial.
When the examination is complete, a full report will be made by the examiner and filed with the Court.
Anthony was charged with murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and intimidating a participant in the legal process and was arrested and charged 10 days after a shooting took place on Sept. 10, 2018 at the corner of Martin Way and West Second Street.
A not guilty plea was entered by Anthony on Nov. 16, 2018.
A trial date won’t be set until the defendant completes the KCPC psychiatric evaluation.
Anthony’s Thursday pretrial conference was rescheduled for Jan. 23, 2020.
