An Owensboro man is facing multiple drug felonies and other charges after he was pulled over for speeding on May 1, according to a release from Kentucky State Police.
Tyrus Action, 21, and a 17-year-old passenger were discovered with a large bag of marijuana, multiple bottles of codeine, a stolen firearm and cash, according to the report from KSP.
Action — who according to court documents also goes by Acton — was charged with:
- Trafficking in Marijuana 1st Offense (Enhancement)
- Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 1st Offense – Codeine
- Receiving Stolen Property – Firearm
- Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon
- Unlawfully Permit Minor to Possess Handgun
- Possession of Controlled Substance – 2nd Degree – Codeine
- Unlawful Transaction with a Minor – 2nd Degree
- Speeding
- Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, 1st Offense
The incident occurred Friday evening, when a KSP trooper patrolling William Natcher Parkway about 10 miles north of Hartford observed a Dodge Avenger traveling northbound at 90 miles per hour in a 70-miles-per-hour zone.
The trooper conducted a traffic stop around 7 p.m. and identified the driver as Action. The trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle, according to the report.
A search was conducted and troopers located roughly three pounds of marijuana and three 4-ounce bottles of codeine.
According to the report, the passenger — a 17-year-old juvenile from Ohio County — possessed a handgun that had been stolen from Daviess County, a large amount of cash, and digital scales.
Action was transported and lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center. The juvenile was arrested and released to the Ohio County Court Designated Worker.
