Throughout Friday, some Owensboro residents have been experiencing AT&T outages that affect phone and internet services. The reports of outages began hours after an explosion in the downtown Nashville area.
AT&T has a “service outage information” website where customers can see if they are affected by an outage. However, when searching for Owensboro the site returns: “Hmm…something isn’t working on our end. It’s not you, it’s us. We hit a snag and can’t display info about your service outage right now…”
The official @ATTHelp Twitter account posted, “We are aware and appreciate your patience. Service for some customers in Nashville & surrounding areas may be affected by damage to our facilities from the explosion this morning. We are in contact with law enforcement & working as quickly as possible to restore service.”
AT&T officials have previously confirmed to Owensboro Times that some Daviess County area services are routed through Nashville, but it’s not clear at this time if the Owensboro outages are directly related to the Nashville explosion.
911 services are affected for some of the surrounding areas but Owensboro-Daviess County 911 Director Paul Nave told Owensboro Times, “Our 911 operations are currently functioning. Our dispatch center is currently able to receive 911 calls. ATT customers may have have periodic issues calling 911 but so far, I’ve been testing ATT calls made to 911 and haven’t had any issues getting through.”
Nave went on to say, “We are currently operating on multiple, redundant backup communication systems. That’s exactly why we have them—in the event of a situation such as this one. Some of our primary system is down as of right now.”
We will continue to monitor the situation and update this story as more details emerge.
