Following a string of property thefts that potentially went on for months, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men Sunday in connection to the crimes. According to DCSO, the amount of stolen property recovered totaled roughly $25,000 total from at least six thefts.
Joshua D. Lagrone, 32, of the 6800 block of Leslie Lane was charged with theft by unlawful taking over $500, while Truman B. Burden, 47, of Sacramento, was charged with receiving stolen property and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (meth).
The property stolen included a camping trailer from Bowling Green, a side-by-side off road vehicle, construction materials, firearms and other high-price items.
Major Barry Smith, chief deputy for DCSO, said Deputy Kelsey Skaggs was following up on a theft report that occurred on Graham Lane in a subdivision where houses were being built. The report regarding stolen construction supplies led Skaggs to a residence located in the 9000 block of Pleasure Point. There, Skaggs discovered what she believed to be more stolen items.
After obtaining a search warrant, it was discovered that Lagrone and Burden were connected to the property and the list of stolen items.
Skaggs was able to clear up “several big cases” related to theft reports, Smith said. Some people hadn’t even known their property had been stolen.
On Monday, Lagrone was additionally charged with four counts of probation violation for a felony offense and two counts of theft by unlawful taking (shoplifting) over $500. Burden was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Smith said the majority of these thefts targeted construction sites and local businesses. Skaggs is continuing to follow up on several cases related to the stolen items, he added.
