When American flags become worn, faded, or torn, there is one approved method to dispose of them — and that is to burn them. A local Flag Day Retirement Ceremony will be held on June 14 to do just that.
The ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. at Panther Creek Park South. Those wishing to attend the service or who are bringing a flag to be disposed of should arrive before the ceremony begins.
American flags that need to be disposed of can also be taken to any local Veterans Service Organization, including Amvets Post 119, Amvets Post 75, American Legion Post 9, or Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696.
Flags should never be thrown away. Burning is the dignified manner to retire the flag.
