Goldenrod Film & Television has announced plans to begin production next month on You Fired a Fashion Icon, a romantic dramedy set in the high-stakes world of couture fashion. Filmmakers are calling on local designers and aspiring actors to join the project.

Filming will take place in Owensboro, with production officially beginning June 2 at Kentucky Sound Stage, located in the former Malco theater on Frederica Street.

After filming Bachelor Santa in Owensboro, directors Jason Tobias and Geoff Reisner are returning with their signature blend of wit and heart for this latest project, produced by Goldenrod in partnership with Action Figure Entertainment.

You Fired a Fashion Icon is about reinvention, resilience, and ambition that refuses to back down,” said Jeremy Winton, producer at Goldenrod Film & Television. “We’re thrilled to bring this story to life in Owensboro — a city full of creativity and community.”

Fellow producer Kristi Kilday added, “This project is a tribute to bold ideas and fresh starts — the artists behind the gowns, the risks that define us, and the joy of creating something original. We’re honored to be filming in Owensboro again and can’t wait to showcase the local talent and spirit that makes this place so special.”

The production team is currently accepting submissions from fashion designers whose work includes elegant, avant-garde, or couture-style dresses. Selected designs will be featured in key moments throughout the film, with designers receiving screen credit and an opportunity to showcase their work to a global audience.

Portfolios and inquiries can be submitted to [email protected] with the subject line “Designer.”

Casting is also underway for background actors between the ages of 18–30 to appear in scenes set at lavish runway shows, galas, and other fashion-world events. Local talent from Owensboro and the surrounding area is encouraged to apply. Interested individuals should send a recent photo and availability to the same email address with the subject line “Background Actor.”

The film is currently in pre-production. No release date has been announced.
