Drivers are being urged to slow down and use extra caution on local roads after deputies responded to 11 vehicle collisions in just 90 minutes during heavy rainfall Monday.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office reported that all the wrecks happened along the US 60 Bypass between Frederica Street and Highway 54. While no serious injuries were reported, each crash caused significant property damage and traffic backups.

Officials said the wrecks were preventable and largely caused by drivers failing to slow down, turn on headlights, and leave enough space between vehicles in rainy conditions.

“Please drive safely by putting your phone down, buckling your seatbelt, and remembering to slow down when it’s raining,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Multiple agencies helped respond to the collisions, including Owensboro–Daviess County Central Dispatch, the Daviess County Fire Department, Owensboro Police Department, AMR Ambulance Service, volunteer fire personnel, and local towing companies.

Authorities said extra traffic enforcement will be in place on the bypass in the coming days. Drivers are reminded to move over for emergency vehicles, stalled cars, state workers, or any vehicle stopped with flashing lights.
