According to Daviess County Sheriff Brad Youngman, the victim is Anthony Scott Smalls, 38, of Utica.
“Per autopsy completed in Louisville by the State Medical Examiner, the bullet hit the heart, aorta, small bit of lung and lodged in spine,” Youngman said.

The victim died at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
According to a release, the suspect has been identified as Darrin Ray Carter, 57, of the 100 block of Saint Anthony Road in Utica. He was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and tampering with physical evidence.
The investigation remains active.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Thursday night shooting that sent one man to the hospital in critical condition, according to officials.
According to Sheriff Brad Youngman, deputies responded around 8 p.m. to the 100 block of Saint Anthony Road, just off U.S. 431 in Brown’s Valley, after receiving a report of a shooting.
Youngman said when DCSO arrived, deputies found a man who had been shot. Youngman said life-saving measures began immediately by DCSO, AMR ambulance service, Daviess County Fire Department, and Utica Fire Department.
The man was taken by AMR to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in critical condition.
According to Youngman, detectives have identified the shooter and recovered the firearm involved. The shooter is currently being questioned, and officials say there is no threat to the public.
The investigation remains active, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
