For the first time since 2012, the Kentucky Senior All-Stars girls’ team swept Indiana in their two-game series. Owensboro Catholic’s Aubrey Randolph was selected to the team, while Michael Robertson was named the Associate Head Coach and the head coach of the Junior team.
“Words can’t explain this honor,” Robertson said. “I learned so much in the last few weeks with Coach Donna Moir. Just learning from her and her having faith in me, trusting me, and letting me call plays, call defenses, and just going back and forth. It was a great experience, and it will make me a better coach. I get to be in her shoes next year, and hopefully I can succeed just like she has.”
In the first game, Kentucky overcame a 12 point second quarter deficit to beat Indiana 84-73. Randolph grabbed one board and missed her lone shot, but was lock down defensively. Sacred Hearts ZaKiyah Johnson led the way with 28 points, while Meade County’s Peyton Bradley added 21.
In the second game, Randolph added eight points, five rebounds, and two assists to help Kentucky win in double overtime, 106-103. Johnson once again led the way with 34 points, while Bradley added 28 points.
“It was truly an honor to be selected to the All-Star team and to play alongside such an amazing group of girls,” Randolph said. “They were so fun to compete with and I learned a lot playing next to so many talented Division 1 athletes. We had slow starts in both games, but once we found our rhythm and played as a team, we were able to come out with wins both days. I had such a great time and am incredibly grateful for the opportunity.”
