The Green River Area Development District (GRADD) is calling on compassionate, community-minded individuals to step up and make a difference in the lives of local seniors through its AmeriCorps Senior Connections program. Members are eligible for a variety of benefits, such as a living allowance and a monetary education award.

Applications are now open for the 2025–26 service year, which runs from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026. Participants will commit to 1,700 hours of service — roughly full-time — helping nonprofit, public, and faith-based agencies across GRADD’s seven-county region expand and strengthen their services for senior citizens.

“The AmeriCorps Senior Connections program truly changes lives — both for the seniors we serve and for our dedicated members,” said Brad Alley, GRADD’s AmeriCorps Program Director. “If you’re passionate about helping others and want to make a real impact in your community, I encourage you to apply.”

Open to adults 18 and older, the program especially encourages older adults (ages 55+) to apply and use their life experience to serve others. It’s part of a broader effort by AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, to empower individuals across the country to tackle community challenges and build civic engagement through service.

Those accepted into the program full-time will receive a $20,400 living allowance, and upon successful completion of their service year, will be eligible for a $7,395 educational award. Members 55 and older can transfer that award to a child, grandchild, or stepchild. Additional benefits may include limited health coverage and childcare assistance.
