A 15-year-old has died following a single-vehicle collision Wednesday night in McLean County, according to Kentucky State Police.

A KSP release says troopers responded to the crash around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of KY 81 and Wallace Lynn Road, just north of Calhoun.

According to a preliminary investigation, the vehicle was traveling southbound on KY 81 when the 18-year-old driver lost control after leaving the right shoulder. The vehicle crossed both lanes of traffic, struck an earthen embankment, and overturned, officials said.

The driver and three juvenile passengers were transported by ambulance to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for treatment. The 15-year-old was later transferred to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, where they died from their injuries.

KSP is continuing to reconstruct the collision as part of its ongoing investigation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, Central and Calhoun Fire Departments, and McLean County EMS.

Editor’s note: Owensboro Times is choosing not to release the name of the driver at this time due to the sensitive nature of the incident.
