Owensboro Bombers win opener of State Tournament

Brady Atwell finished 2-4 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer to power the Owensboro Post 9 Bombers past the Madisonville Post 6 Rangers 15-1 in the opener of the State Tournament. The Bombers made a statement in the top of the first, scoring nine runs on six hits. Owensboro added one run in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth, while Madisonville’s lone run came in the final frame.

Easton Blandford finished 2-3 with three RBIs, while Jagger Pate, Talon Cartwright, Colton Carver, Parker Heistand, and Grayson Smith all drove in runs. Cayden Ray threw a complete game on the mound, allowing one run and striking out six over five innings.

“The team came out focused bursting with energy,” Owensboro Bombers head coach Matt Freeman said. “From the first pitch of the game, our bats were hot. Cayden Ray was on point on the mound, hammering the strike zone inning after inning.”

The Bombers are back in action later this afternoon at 1 pm.
