Competing in the 3rd Region All-A, it was a complete sweep for Owensboro Catholic as both the Aces and Lady Aces emerged victorious to advance to the All-A State Tournament.
For the Lady Aces, Emmie Lanham and Addie-Belle Ruthman both shot 44, while Ava Settles (47), Betsy Evans (52), and Catherine Ray (52) rounded out the team’s scores. The Lady Raiders’ Rylee Hayden who advanced as an individual, shot 65.
“I was very proud of the girls,” Owensboro Catholic girls’ head coach Easton Henry said. “It’s only their second day of school, and we have been golfing nonstop all summer. Their attitude and their character continue to impress me. They are a very mature, very caring, and very loving group of girls. Today’s key lesson was, ‘half the battle is showing up.’ We don’t concern ourselves with the golf course, the opponents, the weather, or any of the external things. We are very focused on our goal of self-improvement.”
On the boys side, the Aces shot 145, narrowly edging out Hancock County by three strokes. Playing nine holes, Vince Hayden led the way shooting 34, while Andrew Powell (35), Luke Estes (37), and JW Wathen (39) rounded out the team’s top four scores.
I am always so proud of how they carry themselves around the course and how they play, but today they really dug their heels in,” Owensboro Catholic boys head coach Bretnea Harvey said. “In my opinion, that’s what makes a good team great. Their tournament averages are so close together, and they are constantly encouraging each other and helping each other to be better. I really think that friendly competition amongst each other is an intrinsic motivator for their performances. Hancock County played extremely well today and has been all season. It was going to take a solid team finish to make sure our team secured the win. The competition was steep today and I’m just really proud of how they kept their heads about them to finish with the win.”
The Hornets Ethan Heavrin (36) and Jaxon Blake (37) both advanced as individuals. Kolby Keown (37) and Jacob Shultz (38) rounded out the teams top four scores.
McLean County shot 193 and was led by Kaysen Bozarth (44), Treyson Blades (46), Zach Albin (50), Elijah West (53), and Keegan Gunterman (62).
Trinity (Whitesville) shot 207 and was represented by Will Mills (49), Finn Williams (50), Zachary Boarman (52), Isaac Hernandez (56), and Grant Howard (68).
