Shooting 156, Owensboro Catholic was able to narrowly beat Hancock County by two strokes to win the local school match. Playing nine holes, Andrew Powell (37) and Triston Logsdon finished first and second in the individual, while Vince Hayden (40) and Luke Estes (41) rounded out the team’s scores. Also competing for the Aces was Jace Merritt who shot 39 and finished third in the individual.
“I’m always so proud of how they carry themselves on the course and how they compete,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Bretnea Harvey said. “I love to see any of my players scoring well individually as well. I know they all put in countless hours on the course, including Andrew, Triston, and Jace, who won the individual places at this match. All three of them had their first high school tournament round breaking 80 to start the season, and they have been consistently trending lower each time they score. Personal wins like this mid-season are great motivators for them, and I hope they feel how much their hard work is paying off.”
For the Hornets, Ethan Heavrin, Kolby Keown, and Jaxon Blake all shot 39, while Jacob Shultz shot 41, and Memphis Ball finished with 46.
“Today was an okay day,” Hancock County head coach Jeff Shultz said. “We had some ups and downs today. We definitely have some things we need to work on, but overall we had a good night. I am always proud of how they keep battling.”
