The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office said a 47-year-old Owensboro man was arrested Tuesday morning after fleeing from a local rehabilitation facility and later being found in a nearby neighborhood.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies first responded to Owensboro Regional Recovery in the 4300 block of Veach Road around 11:45 a.m. Monday after a report of a disturbance. Staff told deputies that a resident, identified as Timothy Matthew Jones, was found with suspected methamphetamine and fled into a wooded area when confronted. A DCSO release said officers were unable to locate him at that time but recovered suspected methamphetamine and some of his belongings.
At about 1 a.m. Tuesday, deputies returned to the facility after Jones reportedly re-entered without permission and took items that did not belong to him. He had left before deputies arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Around 7:30 a.m., deputies received information that Jones was hiding in an abandoned house in the 400 block of Salem Drive. The Sheriff’s Office said they established a perimeter with assistance from Kentucky State Police and used a drone to search the residence. Though he was not found inside, deputies said there was evidence he may have been there.
A release said deputies expanded their search and found Jones in the 100 block of Carlton Drive. According to the Sheriff’s Office, as deputies attempted to arrest him, he swallowed an unknown white powdery substance. He was taken by ambulance to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for a medical evaluation.
The Sheriff’s Office said Jones had an active probation violation warrant at the time of his arrest. After being evaluated, he was transferred to the custody of Kentucky Department of Corrections – Probation and Parole officers.
Jones is charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a prescription controlled substance not in the proper container, tampering with physical evidence, second-degree burglary, and a parole violation warrant.
