One person was shot during an overnight robbery on Hawthorne Drive, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
A release from OPD says that shortly before midnight on July 31, officers responded to a home in the 4200 block of Hawthorne Drive when a male victim reported to area residents that he had been shot in the leg.
According to OPD, the victim reported that three unidentified male suspects exited a vehicle, confronted him, and demanded his backpack.
Officials said the victim stated that he attempted to defend himself but was overpowered by the suspects, who took his backpack. As the suspects fled the scene, one of them reportedly turned back and shot the victim in the leg, according to the release. The victim was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for further medical care with non-life-threatening injuries, OPD said.
Detectives from OPD’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to assist patrol officers with gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
