Traveling to Goshen, Kentucky to compete at Rumble Through The Jungle, Daviess County’s girls team finished fourth (149) and the boys team finished seventh (198). Mackenzie Ross (14th, 19:49.94) led the way for the Lady Panthers, with Kloee Gaynor (25th, 20:33.92), Rylee Emmick (34th, 21:02.14), Bentlei Stallings (38th, 21:07.12), and Mallory Raines (53rd, 21:48.69) right behind her.
For the Panthers, Austin Spurrier (27th, 17:31.79), Judson Redfern (33rd, 17:44.87), Jordan Norris (47th, 17:59.19), Joseph Edge (48th, 18:00.71), and Landon Thompson (53rd, 18:07.29) rounded out the team’s top five times.
“The team is heading in the right direction. It was my first time going to this meet, but the parents recommended it,” Daviess County boys Head Coach James Loi said. “I enjoyed the course because it was a true cross-country course, and it tested the athletes’ ability but mental game. The men varsity got seventh and packed super well. Jordan Norris, Judson, and Joe Edge ran very well and moved up in our pack today to secure a medal finish. Austin Spurrier continues to lead the way and finished first on the team.”
Loi was also pleased with his JV team who took home first place.
“Junior varsity overall looks so strong,” Loi said. “I believe we have the strongest junior varsity in the county. Ben Nunley secured a second-place finish and is being moved up to varsity. Caleb Murphy and Landon Claycombs ran 11 seconds faster than last year, and Luka Skibba in that mixed ran like 2 minutes faster than last year. Overall, it was a great day we are trending in the right direction.”
Hancock County and Owensboro travel to Storm Invitational
The Red Devils competed at the Storm Invitational, finishing sixth (167), with Isrell Roberts (7th, 18:25.4), Jackson Quattrocchi (12th, 18:52.3), Kameryis Rodriquez Cline (17th, 19:25.7), Caleb Henderson (92nd, 27:28.1), and Finn Carroll (94th, 28:40.0).
Hancock County’s Emmitt Meserve (5th, 17:49.9), Noah Henson (36th, 20:34.0), and Max Dejarnette (54th, 21:47.4) competed for the boys’ team, while Isabella Ross (19th, 25:49.1) and Lyla Dejarnette (31st, 28:23.0) represented the Lady Hornets.
“Overall, we did really good,” Hancock County Head Coach Wes Meserve said. “I was short two varsity boys, and I ran all of our middle school girls in the 3k race instead of the varsity race, but we’ve definitely made progress. Emmitt ran 45 seconds better than last year on a wet, slick course and placed fifth. He’s definitely looking good at this point. Our middle school girls all looked good. We have two new girls out this year who are making steady progress each week. It’s hard to say where we will end up at region/state, but we are definitely making the kind of progress I’m looking for at this point.”
