Daviess County put together its most complete performance of the season Friday night, overwhelming Christian County 60-7 on the road. The Panthers improved to 2-2 and will travel to Henderson next week.

The Panthers scored in all three phases, forcing six turnovers and using explosive plays on special teams to put the Colonels away early.

Daviess County grabbed the lead on its opening possession, settling for a 25-yard field goal from Asher Hendrix after Trey McRath intercepted a pass to set up the drive. Later in the first quarter, Ridge Roberts broke free for an 18-yard touchdown run, and Parker Higginbotham added the 2-point conversion for an 11-0 advantage.

The Panthers struck again just before halftime when Jace Hunt intercepted a pass and then threw a 19-yard double-pass touchdown to McRath. Christian County briefly gained momentum with a 25-yard scoring strike in the final seconds of the half, but the Panthers still led 18-7 at the break.

Daviess County erupted for 36 points in the third quarter to put the game away. Hunter Corbin returned the second-half kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown, Roberts added scoring runs of 5 and 25 yards, and Josh Coffey returned an interception 55 yards for another score. Hunt hauled in a 39-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Garrison Barker, and Isaiah Irwin capped the surge with a 28-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Roberts paced the ground game with 101 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Barker threw for 90 yards and a touchdown, while Hunt finished with 77 receiving yards and another score. The Panthers’ defense held Christian County to 179 total yards, intercepted five passes, and recovered two fumbles.

Head coach Qudarius Wallace said the win came down to preparation.

“It feels good to get back on track,” Wallace said. “We had a great week of practice and when you prepare well you play well.”

Wallace attributed the win to the team’s “all-in” mentality, a concept he and his staff have been emphasizing all year.

“We’re just trying to play hard and glorify God in the process,” he said. “We played good defense, created turnovers and our special teams played well all night. We also ran the ball well. That’s what all in gets you.”
