The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has released updates on three recent serious wrecks, while also reporting results from a targeted speed enforcement detail on the U.S. 60 bypass that led to more than 40 citations.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver of a GMC pickup who was critically injured in the September 4 incident has been released from the University of Louisville ICU but remains in serious condition. Two others were killed in that wreck. One person has been identified, but officials are still waiting on DNA results to confirm the other identity.

In another case, lab analysis showed that a pedestrian struck and killed on U.S. 431 on August 18 had a blood alcohol level of .199 at the time of his death, according to DCSO.

Deputies are also pursuing prosecution against 24-year-old Inocencio Cano Espinobarros, who investigators believe was under the influence when he caused a September 12 crash on Reid Road that severely injured a motorcyclist. Officials said Espinobarros could face a charge of first-degree assault, which carries a potential punishment of 10-20 years.

The Sheriff’s Office also announced results from a 3-day speed enforcement detail on the U.S. 60 bypass. Between September 10-12, deputies issued 32 citations for speeding and 16 for other offenses, along with several written warnings. Sheriff Brad Youngman said deputies will continue daily enforcement on the bypass, with additional details planned in the future.

Local leaders — including Youngman, Judge-Executive Charlie Castlen, State Representatives Suzanne Miles and DJ Johnson, Public Safety Director Jeremy Smith, and officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet — are expected to meet next week to discuss possible safety improvements on the bypass.
