The Owensboro Human Relations Commission is inviting the community to weigh in on whether Owensboro and Daviess County should adopt the Uniform Residential Landlord Tenant Act (URLTA). The OHRC is seeking input, particularly from renters and property owners, during three upcoming public forums

The commission has spent the past year studying the potential impact of the law, which outlines rights and responsibilities for both renters and landlords. That review included meeting with elected officials, examining case law, and gathering data from other cities that have already implemented the act.

During the forums, OHRC members will explain what adopting URLTA would mean locally, provide space for discussion, and poll attendees on whether they support adoption.

“We want to hear from the people who would be most affected by this decision,” said Jen Vogel, OHRC Advocacy Chair. “These forums are an opportunity for the community to learn about URLTA, ask questions, and help guide our next steps.”

The forums are planned as follows:

  • September 20 at 2 p.m. — The Logsdon Center
  • September 23 at 10 a.m. — HL Neblett Center
  • September 29 at 5:30 p.m. — OCTC Technical Building, Room 100A

Each forum will last approximately one hour. Light refreshments will be provided.

For questions about the forums or OHRC’s work regarding URLTA, contact the Owensboro Human Relations Commission at 270-687-8671.
