On Sunday evening at the Kentucky Broadcasters Association 2025 Excellence in Broadcasting Awards, 102.7 The Game’s Live at 5 was honored as the Best Talk Show. Hosted by Steve Turner and Vic Evans, the hour-long daily sports talk show takes place from 5 pm to 6 pm and emphasizes the local high school athletes across 19 schools – something the hosts take pride in.

“One thing I love about my job is I get to be around a lot of these 15-18-year-old high school students, and you realize not just what great students they are, but what great students and individuals they are,” Evans said. “I think for us to be able to promote that out there to Owensboro and the surrounding areas with our 19 schools that we cover, that we need that in this day and age.”

Friday at 5 was named a finalist for the award alongside fellow Cromwell Media shows, including Beyond the Bench, hosted by Bradley Payne, Matt Brigance, and Evans, and Let’s Talk Racing, hosted by Blake Smith.

“We knew it was going to be a Cromwell winner, but it means a lot,” Evans said. “This is something Steve and I have been doing together since COVID. He’s done around 1,800 shows, and I am closing in on 1,500 shows all time at Live at 5. We put a lot of hard work into trying to get the biggest platform to the high school athletes in this area. That’s what we’re happy about, is that someone saw what we are doing, and it was well worth the award.”

Once a radio show is nominated for the various awards, they send in a variety of clips, and they are voted on by Broadcasters Associations from different States. This marks a third straight year Cromwell Media has won an award at the KBA, with Jeff Malley also winning the Golden Mic and being inducted into the Kentucky Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

As part of a small staff, Evans is happy to see everyone he works with recognized for all of their hardwork.

“Everybody here is fully committed to the work that we do, in promoting Owensboro, promoting non-profits and high school athletes, or just being a place for people in Owensboro to go to get news,” Evans said. “It really makes me proud to work with the individuals I do. I love coming into work every day, and we have a great staff here. To see them get the recognition they deserve on a statewide basis was the best part of the night. The KBA is such a great organization, and they do a lot of great work. For them to recognize the work here at Cromwell has been putting in means the world.”
