Owensboro’s Internal Revenue Service office is set to close by the end of November.

The office, a Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC), is located at 401 Frederica Street, Building C, Suite 101.

A notice on the door says the office will close as of November 30, 3025. Part of the notice reads, “Most services and tax products are available on IRS.gov. Face-to-Face Service may be arranged at another location by appointment. Call 1-844-545-5640.”

In a statement sent via email, spokesperson Stacy Engle said the IRS is “reviewing its space portfolio and is identifying opportunities to reduce rent costs through the strategic reduction of its office footprint as directed by an executive order and by the Office of Management and Budget.”

The executive order refers to President Donald Trump’s “Implementing the President’s ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ Cost Efficiency Initiative,” while the Office of Management and Budget Memorandum is its “Implementation of the Utilizing Space Efficiently and Improving Technologies Act.”

According to the statement, “there will be no job losses and no effect on taxpayer service as a result of this effort. For locations that include Taxpayer Assistance Centers, alternative options for in-person service will be identified to ensure continued support for taxpayers.”

Engle did not answer questions about why the Owensboro office was among those closing.

According to the TAC page of the IRS website, the assistance centers “help taxpayers resolve problems with the IRS, and recommend changes that will prevent the problems.”
