Playing over fall break with limited practice time, McLean County’s run game proved too much for Fort Knox, winning 50-21.

The Cougars took an early 8-0 lead after Maddox Osborne recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. After forcing a punt, McLean County pushed the lead to 16-0 after Riley Walker found the endzone and a successful two-point conversion.

The Eagles responded with a touchdown of their own in the second quarter, but the Cougars immediately responded when Aden Bolden connected with Walker for a 24-8 halftime lead.

In the second half, Walker ran in another touchdown and hauled in his second touchdown pass of the night to put the Cougars up 36-8. Fort Knox bounced back with their second touchdown of the night, but McLean County blocked the extra point attempt to make it 36-14.

A few minutes later, Hunter Stratton broke free for a 56-yard rushing touchdown, making it 42-14 early in the fourth quarter. The Eagles found the endzone one final time, but the Cougars once again responded, with Will Searcy getting to the outside for the team’s fourth rushing score.

Head Coach Zach Wagner was pleased with the way his team handled the pressure of limited practice time heading into the game.

“It was tough playing over fall break,” Wagner said. “We only had one day of practice and had to get everyone back from vacation.”

The Cougars return to action next Friday when they travel to Owensboro Catholic.
