A 17-year-old male from Owensboro has died following a single-vehicle crash last week near Ben Hawes Park, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a release, the crash occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. on October 23 when the driver of a pick-up was traveling northbound on Willet Road and, for unknown reasons, left the roadway and struck a tree. Emergency crews found the vehicle heavily damaged off the roadway, and firefighters had to mechanically extricate the driver, authorities said.
Due to the severity of his injuries, the teen was flown by Air Evac to Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville in critical condition.
DCSO confirmed on October 28 that the driver later died from his injuries while at the hospital. His death was reported to local authorities by the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office. (Editor’s note: Owensboro Times is choosing not to publish the name at this time due to the victim being under 18 years old.)
The DCSO Accident Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
