Week eight features Apollo traveling to Madison-North Hopkins, while Daviess County and Owensboro are hosting Meade County and Muhlenberg County.

Apollo (3-4) (Class 5A, District 1) @ Madisonville-North Hopkins (7-0) (Class 5A, District 1)

Quick notes: The Eagles entered last week’s bye week with an impressive 14-7 win over Graves County. Tonight, they travel to undefeated Madisonville-North Hopkins, whom they narrowly lost to a year ago, 42-35.

Head Coach John Edge: We are looking forward to a great match up. Both teams are still fighting for home playoff spots.

Madisonville loves to run the football and slow the tempo down. While we will try to speed up the game.

On offense, we have to stop Markezz Hightower. There’s no secret to that. On defense, we have to block their linebacker, Travion Stafford.

Daviess County (4-3) (Class 6A, District 2) Vs. Meade County (0-7) (Class 6A, District 2)

Quick notes: The Panthers enter tonight on a two-game win streak, most recently cruising past Central Hardin 58-8. Tonight, they host Meade County, whom they lost to a year ago 28-14.

Head Coach Quadarius Wallace said: Meade County is a tough team. I think their record isn’t as indicative of how good they are. They have had to play some tough teams and didn’t come out on the right side of things.

Offense is led by Wyatt Raney. He’s their best athlete. He has played quarterback, running back, and receiver, and they try to get the ball to him in multiple ways.

Defensively, they are a 3-4 structure. They have some guys who fly around. Their ends are fairly disciplined. Their linebackers flow and get to the ball. They do play man coverage, so hopefully we can do some things to exploit their man coverage and some of the tendencies that they have.

I want us to continue to run the ball. That is who we are and that is who we stay true to. We have all the faith in the world in our offensive line and their ability to move people and open lanes for us to run the ball. I am expecting us to be able to run the ball and, in the pass game, take shots when we can. Exploit things they give us in the pass game.

Our defense needs to show consistency. Our guys need to fly to the ball and attempt to force turnovers.

Owensboro (5-2) (Class 5A, District 1) Vs. Muhlenberg County (4-3) (Class 5A, District 1)

Quick notes: After starting the season 0-2, Owensboro has won five straight, most recently cruising past Marshall County 62-7. Tonight, they host Muhlenberg County, a team known for running the option.

Head Coach DaMarcus Ganaway said: Muhlenberg County is really physical, and you know what you are going to get from them schematically. They are really physical in the box and up front. We have to come out and play from the get-go, or else they will be able to move onto the ball, hold onto it a little bit, and get some long runs. We don’t want to be in those situations.

Defensively, scheme-wise up front and in the box is where we need to play our best. They are going to key on the run and our secondary has to use our spacing correctly. For us it will be about our tempo.

Our defensive line has to be physical, play gap sound, fire off the ball, and they can’t allow any leverage up front. They can easily get some inside runs and hit those three, four, and five-yard runs that will keep a drive going and hurt you on third downs. Our DL has to control the line of scrimmage.
