A man has been arrested after detectives uncovered child sexual abuse material while investigating a separate drug case, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
According to OPD, detectives with the Street Crimes Unit executed a search warrant on October 7 at a residence in the 1200 block of Wayside Drive West. Authorities said detectives found more than 20 pounds of marijuana and two firearms.
According to the release, 46-year-old Chadwick Evans was arrested, and detectives seized his cell phone and obtained a search warrant to examine digital evidence. During that forensic search, OPD said, child sexual abuse material involving a victim under the age of 12 was discovered.
On October 10, the OPD Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force charged Evans with one count of possession of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor under 12.
Authorities said Evans faces the following additional charges:
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Trafficking in marijuana (more than 5 pounds), first offense (enhanced)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
