It was a clean sweep for Daviess County as both the Panthers and Lady Panthers took home the cross-country city county title. For the Panthers, they narrowly beat Apollo by three points, while the Lady Panthers beat second place Owensboro Catholic by 11 points.

Daviess County’s boys’ team was led by Judson Redfern, who finished third with a time of 16:57.09, while Camryn Edge (4th, 17:02.53), Austin Spurrier (5th, 17:07.96), Landon Thompson (7th, 17:14.89), and Joseph Edge (8th, 17:15.20) rounded out the team’s top five times.

“The team knew it was going to be a dog fight,” Daviess County boys’ Head Coach James Loi said. “We knew Apollo would probably finish first and second, so we had to make sure and get our five in front of their back three. If they didn’t do that, then seven in front of their five. Everyone executed today what we needed to do. The highlight was probably Landon Thompson hitting his personal record, and Ben Nunley and Jordan Norris out-kicking Apollo’s fifth guy to win.”

The finished just three points back of first place, with Asher Alvey and Noah Gray coming in first and second with times of 16:16.06 and 16:18.63. They were followed by Eli Currington (6th, 17:10.98), William Guadarrama (9th, 17:29.25) and Grayson Turner (12th, 17:31.59).

Owensboro finished third, beating Owensboro Catholic by five points. Their top five consisted of Jackson Quattrocchi (20th, 17:58.51), Isrell Roberts (21st, 17:59.51), Kameryis Rodriquez Cline (23rd, 18:19.80), Dylan Fulkerson (28th, 18:43.67), and Harrison Short (34th, 19:06.32).

The Aces were led by Owen Brey (14th, 17:35.77), Simon Thompson (22nd, 18:07.90), John Wathen (27th, 18:39.17), Ben Booker (35th, 19:14.37), and Luke Pfeifer (39th, 20:15.08).

Boasting a relatively young team that includes mainly middle schoolers, Trinity (Whitesville) was led by Carter Mayfield (42nd, 21:07.01), Luke Howard (43rd, 21:07.45), Hugh Williams (44th, 21:10.73), Jaxen Bickett (45th, 21:23.20), and Ian White (50th, 23:25.35).

“The team ran awesome with many season best times,” Daviess County girls Head Coach Wes Orlow said. “Our third girl today, Kloee Gaynor, ran a personal best 5k.  We also had season-best races from Bentli Stallings, Mallory Raines, Dakota McCaslin, Marley Day, Lily Kurz, Anna Smallegan, Marlie Long, and Marley Day.”

The Lady Aces were neck and neck with Daviess County, while the Aces finished fourth (97) in the boys’ race.
