A woman was arrested Thursday in Owensboro after police said she was driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.265 — more than three times the legal limit — while she had an 11-month-old child in the vehicle.

According to the citation, officers responded to a crash in the 2700 block of Breckenridge Street just before 6 p.m. on Thursday. Police identified the driver as 36-year-old Jamie L. Coomes, of Rockport, Indiana. She told officers she struck the rear of another vehicle while backing up, the citation says.

The citation shows officers reported that Coomes had difficulty maintaining attention, that she stated she “had a drink earlier,” and that field sobriety tests showed multiple signs of impairment. She was later found to have a BAC of 0.265, according to the report.

Police said Coomes was carrying an infant in her arms when they arrived, and the child appeared to be unharmed, according to the document.

Records show that Coomes was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle under the influence (DUI), and failure to produce an insurance card.

Coomes was lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.

Editor’s note: The original version of this said Coomes was 44 because that was the age listed on the Daviess County Detention Center website. The age has been corrected to 36 based on the birth date shown on the citation.
