Daviess County showed flashes of its offensive potential Friday night but couldn’t overcome Hopkinsville’s big-play rushing attack in a 50-20 loss in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs. The Panthers finished the season 5-6.

Quarterback Garrison Barker threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns, connecting often with senior receiver Jace Hunt, who had 12 catches for 205 yards and two scores — including a 67-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Hunter Corbin added a touchdown grab and finished with 73 all-purpose yards, while Ridge Roberts rushed for 47 yards on 15 carries.

Hopkinsville (8-3) established control early behind running back James Bradley, who finished with 222 yards and five touchdowns on 20 carries. The Tigers rushed for 257 yards overall and averaged nearly 11 yards per play compared to 5.7 for Daviess County.

After falling behind 16-0 in the first quarter, Daviess County answered with two second-quarter touchdowns from Barker — one to Hunter Corbin and another to Hunt — to trim the deficit to 22-14 at halftime. Hopkinsville then pulled away in the second half, scoring 28 straight points before the Panthers’ final touchdown drive.

“It didn’t go the way we hoped,” Daviess County head coach Qudarius Wallace said. “A few breaks went their way when we needed them to go ours — but that’s life. We’re grateful for the opportunity to take the field and compete, win or lose.”

The loss closes a competitive season for the Panthers under first-year head coach Quadarius Wallace.

“Proud doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about our seniors,” he said. “They fought, trusted the process, and laid a foundation for the future of this program. People counted this group out, but they stayed ‘ALL IN’ — and that’s what I’m most proud of.”
