A wanted felon was taken into custody Tuesday night after reportedly fighting with deputies and attempting to enter multiple homes in the Sorgho area, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at approximately 8:25 p.m. to a 911 call reporting that Zachary Hudson was yelling, banging on doors, and trying to enter residences in the 2300 block of Woodland Drive, according to a release from DCSO. While en route, dispatchers advised that Hudson had an active parole warrant for his arrest.

Authorities said that when deputies arrived, they were told Hudson had run toward the Marathon gas station on KY 56 and might be armed. A deputy located him in the parking lot, where officials said he was sweating heavily and speaking incoherently, the release says.

According to the release, as the deputy tried to take him into custody, Hudson resisted, fought, and ran toward a nearby home in the 6500 block of KY 56. Deputies said he attempted to get inside through the front door before being confronted on the porch. The homeowner opened the door during the struggle but was ordered to go back inside and call 911, the release says.

“Additional deputies arrived and assisted in taking Hudson into custody, during which time Hudson continued to fight and resist and attempted to bite and spit on the deputies,” the release says. “A taser was used on Hudson three times with little effect, and he was eventually handcuffed. He continued to resist and scream incoherently and was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by AMR Ambulance Service with a deputy riding in the ambulance with him to keep him under control.”

Hudson was treated for injuries and admitted for medical issues related to ingesting unknown substances prior to the incident, the release says.

Authorities said suspected methamphetamine was found in Hudson’s pants pocket and a Glock handgun on the ground along the route he fled.

Two deputies sustained minor injuries during the altercation and were treated at the hospital, also undergoing exposure testing due to possible contact with Hudson’s saliva and blood, according to the release.

Hudson remains hospitalized under guard by Kentucky Probation and Parole officers. He faces multiple charges, including:

  • Public intoxication
  • Resisting arrest
  • Fleeing or evading police (first degree, on foot)
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Possession of a controlled substance (first degree, second offense – methamphetamine)
  • Two counts of assault (third degree, police officer)
  • Assault (third degree, bodily fluids on police officer)
  • Criminal trespassing (third degree)
  • Criminal mischief (second degree)
  • KY parole violation warrant for absconding (original charges of assault, two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, two counts of receiving stolen property, theft, trafficking in a controlled substance (meth))
