What started as a simple Facebook page created by a new mom on maternity leave has grown into one of the region’s most trusted hubs for local food assistance.

Founded by Melody Mourning, Feeding Owensboro compiles and verifies all available food pantries, community meals, and blessing box locations across Owensboro and Daviess County — helping residents easily find where to go for food support.

“I just wanted to make it easier for people who need help to know exactly where and when to go,” Mourning said. “There were so many outdated or conflicting lists floating around, and I thought, ‘someone needs to fix this.’ So I did.”

The Feeding Owensboro Facebook page now has thousands of followers and publishes verified daily updates, monthly calendars, and lists of free or affordable meal options throughout the county.

Filling the Gaps

Mourning said her goal is to bridge the communication gap between those offering help and those who need it most.

“I just want to support the people already doing the good work,” she said. “There are so many great organizations feeding this community. I’m just trying to make it easier for families to find them.”

Feeding Owensboro is now a registered nonprofit, and Mourning said the group’s mission remains simple: to ensure no one in Daviess County goes hungry because they didn’t know where to turn.
