First United Bank and Trust Company has once again been named one of the Best Banks to Work For by American Banker — marking the fourth straight year the Madisonville-based community bank has received the national recognition.

In the 2025 rankings, First United Bank placed No. 12 overall, No. 9 among banks with less than $3 billion in assets, and claimed the top spot in Kentucky.

“Earning this recognition for the fourth consecutive year is a testament to the exceptional culture we’ve built together at First United Bank,” said J. Jason Hawkins, the bank’s president and CEO. “Our team members are the foundation of our success, and their dedication to serving our customers and communities sets us apart. We’re proud to create an environment where our employees feel valued and empowered to make a meaningful difference every day. This award validates our ongoing commitment to creating a workplace where people genuinely want to build their careers.”

American Banker compiles the annual rankings in partnership with Best Companies Group, which evaluates institutions based on benefits and workplace policies, as well as anonymous employee feedback. Ninety financial institutions earned a spot on this year’s list.

“The banks recognized as Best Banks to Work For are institutions employees want to join and stay,” said American Banker Editor-in-Chief Chana Schoenberger. “They understand how to give workers reasons to find purpose in their jobs.”

Founded in 1996, First United Bank and Trust Company operates seven branches in Madisonville, Earlington, Beaver Dam, Marion, and Owensboro. The bank has 109 employees and more than $586 million in assets.
