A 24-year-old man has been charged with stabbing a woman on Wednesday evening, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
According to OPD, officers responded just after 5:30 p.m. to a reported disturbance in the 3700 block of Haywood Court. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female suffering from a stab wound to the abdominal area. The victim received immediate medical attention at the scene and was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where she was taken into surgery and is now in stable condition, according to the release.
Authorities said that officers conducted interviews and identified the suspect as Tre Dixon, who they say fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
An OPD K9 officer was utilized and tracked the suspect’s path to the area of Horse Fork Creek Park on Fairview Drive, according to the release. With assistance from the Kentucky State Police, Dixon was located and taken into custody.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the incident.
While being questioned by detectives, the suspect suffered a medical emergency unrelated to the incident and was taken to OHRH for medical treatment, according to OPD.
Dixon is in custody and was charged with first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence. He will be lodged at the Daviess County Detention Center upon his release from the hospital, authorities said.
