The Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra and String Orchestra will present their annual Fall Concert on Monday, Nov. 24, at First Christian Church, located at 700 JR Miller Blvd.

The performance begins at 6:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6. Tickets are $10 per person, with free admission for all students. Advance tickets are available at OwensboroSymphony.org, and cash or check will be accepted at the door.

Sponsored by the Owensboro Symphony, the Youth Orchestra program provides advanced musical training to talented young musicians. Symphony leadership said it is designed to complement and build upon school music programs by offering students opportunities to tackle more challenging repertoire. They added that many participants have gone on to earn college music scholarships and continue performing beyond high school.

The program features two ensembles: the Youth Orchestra, which offers a full orchestra experience, and the String Orchestra. Musicians come from local and regional middle and high school bands and orchestras, and college students are also welcome to participate at the Youth Orchestra level.

Mark Hatlestad directs the Youth Orchestra. He is Principal Viola for both the Owensboro Symphony and the Evansville Philharmonic, serves as Artist-in-Residence with the University of Evansville’s Eykamp String Quartet, and teaches privately. The String Orchestra is led by Adrienne Vallandingham, who teaches violin at the Owensboro Symphony Academy and serves as the Symphony’s Education Coordinator and Librarian.
