It was a positive night for the local teams as McLean County, Owensboro Catholic, and Trinity (Whitesville) all won.
McLean County 58, Webster County 52
Trailing 24-18 at halftime and 43-36 entering the fourth quarter, the Cougars roared alive in the final frame to beat Webster County 58-52 to win the Independence Bank Christmas Classic.
Camden Baird led the way with 21 points, and Jaelin Groves grabbed nine rebounds. Layden Bozarth and Braxton Floyd both finished with 12 points.
Owensboro Catholic 60, Wood Memorial High School (Oakland) 34
The Aces defense held Wood Memorial to nine second-half points as they cruised to a 60-34 win. Solly Smith led the way with 17 points, and Dre’Mail Carothers added 15 points.
Trinity (Whitesville) 38, Ballard Memorial 34
In a low-scoring affair, the Raiders held Ballard Memorial to six points in the fourth quarter en route to a 38-34 win. Harrison Barnett led the way with 13 points, and Grant Howard added nine points.
“We held on down the stretch to secure a gritty win. I was proud of how my guys fought throughout the game against a big Ballard Memorial team,” Trinity (Whitesville) Head Coach Nathan West said. “We were also without our leading scorer, Ian Roby, who hurt his knee last night. So, we need everyone to step up, and our subs answered the call.”
