Update, Dec. 30 at 12:30 p.m. — The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday that the fugitive warrant for William Bozarth stems from a 2023 charge of domestic abuse battery with child endangerment. According to a spokesperson with the LPSO media team, Bozarth will be extradited back to the Livingston Parish Detention Center, though a timeline for that transfer has not been determined.

Court records show that Daviess District Court Judge Shannon Meyer set a $250,000 full cash bond on Tuesday morning. Bozarth remained incarcerated at DCDC as of Tuesday morning.

Original, Dec. 29 at 11:30 p.m. — William “Billy” Bozarth, who recently announced his candidacy for Hancock County Sheriff, was arrested Monday evening by Kentucky State Police on a fugitive warrant from another state.

According to KSP Public Information Officer Corey King, Bozarth was taken into custody at 7:06 p.m. Dec. 29 after troopers confirmed an active fugitive warrant out of Louisiana dating back to 2023 through the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office. Bozarth, 51, was booked into the Daviess County Detention Center at 7:41 p.m., jail records show.

King said Bozarth will be formally served once he is returned to Louisiana, noting that the process is standard procedure for Kentucky law enforcement when handling out-of-state warrants.

The arrest citation lists the charge as “fugitive from another state.” King said KSP had no additional details about the underlying Louisiana case tied to the warrant.

OT has since discovered that in September 2020, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office publicly identified Bozarth as wanted on a contractor fraud warrant, as reported by multiple Louisiana media outlets. However, it was not immediately clear whether the current fugitive warrant is related to that case.

OT also discovered court records showing that Bozarth pleaded guilty on Nov. 14 in Ohio County District Court to public intoxication for an incident earlier this year. He was charged on June 14 and posted a $5,000 unsecured bond the same day, according to court records. Few other details about the incident were immediately available.

Bozarth filed his paperwork to run for Hancock County Sheriff on Dec. 19, and the Owensboro Times reported on his candidacy on Dec. 24. In announcing his campaign, Bozarth said he was seeking the office to bring leadership, integrity, and a commitment to public service to the sheriff’s department.
