Earlier today, in front of a packed room at Windy Hollow Biscuit House, it was announced that Trevor Hutchins and Misty Westerfield have bought the beloved Owensboro staple, Windy Hollow Raceway Park – effective Jan. 30. The raceway park includes Windy Hollow Speedway, Windy Hollow Dragway, and Windy Hollow Karting.

“This has been a childhood aspiration of mine, since I was seven years old,” Hutchins said. “It’s an extraordinary feeling to achieve this. Windy Hollow has been my lifelong passion. I have ambitious goals and a clear vision for all three tracks.”

For 110 years, the Windy Hollow property has been in Evelyn “Rooster” Miller’s family’s possession, with Windy Hollow Speedway opening in 1970. Over the years, Miller has had the opportunity to sell the Speedway, but acknowledged that the opportunity never felt right.

“I feel awesome. Over the years, everybody has wanted to buy the racetrack. I get it, and always did get it and understand,” Miller said. “When you love something, it’s not about keeping it, it’s about letting go at the right time. This isn’t Trevor’s first go around, and it certainly isn’t Misty’s first go around, with them learning from their previous experience. Him being young and having guidance from
Misty made it just feel right.”

Hutchins has early memories of running around the Holloway bleachers as a child, before later spending a few years racing on the track. From 2016-2020, and again over the last two years, Hutchins and Westerfield were promoters for Windy Hollow.

“When you take full ownership, it’s a lot easier to go in and spend money on something you know is yours,” Hutchins said. “It’s easy now to go in and invest a million dollars in the bleachers that you know at the end of the day, it’s yours. You get to keep that stuff. It’s really awesome and a big milestone. I think were going to take Windy Hollow to another level.”

Moving forward, the duo has high aspirations for the raceway, and plans to bring in new bleachers, press boxes, and suites.

“The journey to this point has been long and filled with countless challenges, but it has also been incredibly rewarding,” Westerfield said. “We would not have reached the milestone without many remarkable individuals, including my family, race family, and employees. The accomplishment is truly a team effort.”
