Less than 72 hours after winning a KHSAA Boys/Coed Region 1 Championship title at 157 pounds for Owensboro Catholic, the Aces Wrestling Club’s Teddy Brauer acquired more hardware. The eighth grader made quick work of his competition at 165 pounds, winning his second straight Middle School State title.

“It was a long season with regionals and state getting pushed back but what a great year we had. We had several firsts for the program,” Aces Wrestling Club Head Coach Matt Allen said. “As a middle school team we had our first ever top 10 finish in the individual state tournament, finishing in 8th place out of 95 teams competing. It was the most kids both youth and middle school that we sent to state. As a team we had 30 kids qualify for the State Tournament.”

Westin Clark landed on the podium, after finishing fifth at 70 pounds – making him the second middle school state placer in Aces Wrestling Club history. At the youth tournament, Jaxon Aull won for 8U at 40 pounds, while Gus Murphy was 3rd in 8U at 53 pounds. The duo became the first youth placers in Aces Wrestling Club history.

“As a coach, how can you not be proud of the effort that every kid put into this season,” Allen said. “The improvement from last season was unbelievable and that is a testament to the hard work that these kids put into their wrestling, day in and day out. Thank you to all of the parents, coaches, and wrestlers who have made this year so special.”
