Yesterday, KSR revealed its Kentucky high school boys’ basketball top 25 rankings for week nine, with Daviess County coming in at the top spot. This is the first time in school history that the Panthers have been the top-ranked team on KSR’s list.

Daviess County overtook Madison Central for the number one ranking, who were upset by Woodford County. Covington Catholic comes in right behind the Panthers after moving up two spots, and St. Xavier, Madison Central, and George Rogers Clark round out the top five.

“It’s an honor for the attention it brings to the school and our players,” Daviess County Head Coach Neil Hayden said. “I believe it shows the effort we have put into the season.”

Sitting at 19-3, all three of the Panthers’ losses this year have come against teams outside of the state. Through 22 games, they are winning by an average of 21 points and are seventh in the state in field goal percentage (52.5%). They are averaging 73.5 points per game and are holding opponents to 52.5 points per game.

With over two weeks left in the regular season, the Panthers know what is on the line.

“This is not our final objective at this point in the season,” Hayden said. “There is more work to do.”
