Kentucky Legend has issued a statement acknowledging weight discrepancies involving its ham products, one month after first notifying customers of a price-labeling error affecting some items.
In a statement issued on Jan. 25, 2026, the Owensboro-based company said it had identified a price-labeling error affecting “a limited number” of Brown Sugar Quarter Hams. According to the company, the affected products were removed from store shelves once the issue was discovered.
“We take labeling accuracy seriously and have completed a thorough review of what occurred. Our investigation confirmed that this error was isolated to a 5-minute window on a single production date,” the statement reads. “As a result, we’ve reinforced our processes and safeguards to help ensure accurate pricing going forward.”
A second statement, issued on Feb. 25, cited “a limited number” of weight discrepancies involving Kentucky Legend’s quarter- and half-ham products. In that statement, the company again pointed to reinforced internal processes to address the issue.
Kentucky Legend also said it made the decision to withdraw all affected products from Walmart locations and donate them.
“To all our customers, we take full responsibility to fix the problem and pledge to make it right to those impacted customers,” the statement said. “For over 25 years, at Kentucky Legend we have made our ham with integrity and quality.”
Both statements said customers who believe they may have been affected can contact the company at [email protected].
Kentucky Legend operates under Specialty Foods Group, LLC, which is based in Owensboro.
